3/8/13

About to miss another day. Sorry, guys, but after I sit at my computer writing all day, it is getting harder and harder to come back to work and do a blog entry. That isn’t fair, though, so I try not to play hooky often.

I did a lot of laundry yesterday, and dishes today, but that is also pretty much my extent of cleaning these days. On the other hand, I am up to 66 submissions for the year. So far I have 14 rejections and 7 acceptances. And I think I am about ready to try some non-fiction submissions. I’ve written/finished more short stories so far this year than I have in a decade it feels like!

Other than writing, I have been watching interesting things on Netflix. I watched House of Cards, and it was a fascinating look at Washington–how true it is, I don’t know, but it made me think. And then I watched the first season of American Horror Story. I LOVED that. The characters weren’t particularly likable (kinda like Mad Men) but I was invested in what happened to them. They don’t have season two available yet on Netflix. I don’t think I liked it enough to spend money for it on Amazon…but after seeing Joseph Fiennes is one of the stars of season two…that may change. 😉

Right this moment, my brain is rather mushy. I don’t think I could do justice to a new poem. Let’s see if I can find one to share…

This is an oldie, but a goodie:

The Mirror in My Head

The mirror in my head shows
a girl of slender grace
with hair of red glinting in the sun
and eyes of green sparkling beneath
a fringe of bangs
as she stands poised before the world.

The mirror in my head shows
a thousand tomorrows
waiting to be tamed,
a thousand hearts
destined to be broken.

The mirror in my head shows
wit, and poise, and power.

The mirror in my head shows
fire, and brilliance, and freedom.

The mirror in my head shows
the creature trapped inside
the confines of my outside.

The mirror in my head breaks
when I pass
the mirror in my hallway.
